A Platform

Almost every candidate for elected office attempts to convince the electorate that they will make this or that happen when they are elected. This annoys me because our system of checks and balances prevents one person from running the show. Understand, the president may take some actions that are not subject to Congress's approval or the Supreme Court's judgment. Some of the items in this platform might fall into that category, but for the most part, they could only all be implemented by a dictator or emperor. Fortunately, we do not have one of those.....yet. Give the American people time, they might opt for one someday.
I did not put much thought into these actions, which would align me with the rest of the gang in Washington, D.C. Some of these actions are minuscule, but have meaningful results. Others are astronomical and would have catastrophic, dynamic shifts in the American way of life.
All, however, are designed to save the country. Here then, for your enjoyment and hopefully enlightenment, is the eleven point platform, presented in the Jay Leno top ten style. Would you vote for me if I espoused this platform?

The number eleven action to take to save the country is:
Stop the production of pennies, nickels and one dollar bills.
10. Eliminate upper limit on social security taxes.
9. Change income tax code to flat tax on all income and eliminate all deductions.
8. Eliminate political parties and change nomination process for president to popular vote by all the voters in a single day primary in July - top two vote getter's run off in November.
7. Make killing unborn infants murder.
6. Criminalize homosexual relations.
5. Eliminate Daylight Savings Time.
4. Get ethanol out of our gasoline.
3. Stop borrowing money.
2. Mandate all employees be paid their net pay (after tax deductions) in cash.

And the number one action to take to save the country is eliminate the Dept of Education and repeal all federal laws having anything to do with education. Our schools is where the lie is perpetuated.

I suppose there are a few more, but these are a good start.
I did not explain why these actions work. Ask me and I 'll try to respond.

Merry Christmas, Mort

Mort,

Why do you think these actions will work so well?

A former student

Mort Stump said...

Because they attack the root causes of our troubles, namely the rising debt, the banks controlling us, our declining morals, and an education system that is teaching our children that the governments way is the only way.

I see, but how exactly do homosexuals affect the economy?

Mort Stump said...

The platform was not necessarily designed to save the economy, but save the country. However, if one believes that our declining morals are bringing God's wrath upon our nation, then the proliferation of homosexuality will only increase His wrath.

So has this become a theocracy then?

Anonymous said...

Mort, how do you feel about The Westboro Baptist Church?

Another former student.

Mort Stump said...

Constitutionally, Westboro has the right to have an opinion that homosexuality is wrong and that our country is being punished because the country has allowed homosexuality to be accepted. They also have the right to peaceful assembly. The people having funerals have a right to privacy as well, thus the dilemma. Personally, I think Westboro goes overboard, is not acting in love, and that their resources would be better spent helping the poor, widows and orphans and trying to bring Jesus to the lost rather than save the country. Alas, it seems my post was designed to save the country, too, but I was a bit more subtle about it wasn't I? And my story, which could be available soon after Memorial Day, is more designed to save lives and souls, but if God uses it to save the country, then that is just an added benefit.

I'll assume by "this" you mean electing officials who believe homosexuality is a sin, that killing unborn infants is murder, and that we should have prayer and Bible lessons in school again. I doubt that electing people with those characteristics would create a theocracy, or we would have had one from 1789 to 1962. The founding fathers believed all those things and we became a great country. By our own doing? Partly, because we obeyed God's word. He in turn showers us with blessings.
And I am not sure why the general public is now thinking a theocracy is a bad thing. Probably because of all the non-Christian teachers and professors in our educational system. But maybe we should fear a theocracy because the one that might be established could very well be a Muslim one.

Mort, I feel as though you lean towards some libertarian principles. Do you agree with libertarianism?

Anonymous said...

Mort, I feel like you lean on fences built from outdated morality.

Mort Stump said...

I will not profess to know all the principles libertarianism espouses, so I will qualify a "yes". I did vote for Ron Paul last week, but moreso because I believe his ideas have the best chance of saving the country. I do believe in freedom, yet not at the expense of violating Godly principles. Want to know more about libertarianism? Listen to Joe Christiano on the web.

Mort Stump said...

Can you wonder why you start your comments with "I feel" and I use "I believe"?
Satan enjoys people who act on their feelings instead of solid beliefs. He also thoroughly loves when people believe morality becomes outdated. Satan will try again and again to get you to abandon that which God shows us to be the truth.
If the fence collapses and one side is hell and the other heaven, I know which side I will land on. Do you?

All of us begin our sentences the same way to conceal our identities. Furthermore, we do know where we stand for the so called "morality" of the Bible concerns us greatly. Notice there is nothing in the Ten Commandments about slavery, misogny, etc. It's ironic that something that should teach us so much about love breeds hatred and intolerance towards other persons. Is this societies doing or the Scripture, dare I ask?

Mort Stump said...

Yes, you dare. Society's, because God has given the world over to Satan.
"Our" identities? "us" greatly? "we" do know? Are you a host of what?
Call on Jesus and more than likely you will see better. Jesus knows you, whether you be of the world or of the kingdom.

Anonymous said...

You still didn't address His reasoning for leaving out slavery, bigotry, and misogny.

Sincerely,

Hosts of rational thinking

I don't know what this little Q&A is supposed to be, but I don't like where it's going... you start disputing my God, and you got a problem.

Right now there are five anonymous comments on my site, so I am having some trouble deciphering who said or asked what. Could you use some kind of code name so I know who to respond to.
By no means am I the wisest person on the Earth, so I need to seek some wiser counsel on some of the latest questions. With luck, I'll have some answers Monday.

As promised, my thoughts:
It is usually ineffective to use the Bible to authenticate God, for He created the book, not the other way around. So even though there are many places in the Bible that do substantiate His existence, I will refrain from doing that. One needs to believe in God before he tries to understand His Word. My hope is that the belief in God will enable the believer to grasp more and more of the concepts in the Bible.
Similarly, it would be fruitless for anyone to try to disprove God with the Bible, especially to a believer. It would not matter how well I could answer questions about slavery, patriarchal societies, homosexual relations, adultery, honoring the sabbath, drug use, or bigotry, any opponent of the Word would find more items in the book to challenge the truth. Therefore, seek God first, and then pray and ask Him to bring you peace with those areas of the Bible that seem bothersome.
What concerns me more is anonymous' motive. He/she seems to be a slave to intellectualism, not being able to let his/her heart believe what the mind won't. But why go out of the way to convince other people that there is no God and the Bible is not truth? What purpose could it serve, denying others freedom from everlasting torment? Unless Satan has that strong a hold on them.
Whereas my motive is to offer people everlasting joy. What wrong could there be in that? If I am wrong, I will wake up dead one day; if the person who rejects God is wrong, he/she will wake up in hell, even if they do not believe in it.
Morality. Good, bad, Bible-based, modern, old-fashioned, flexible, rigid,or out-dated. What difference does it make? I still believe our decline in morals is responsible for many of our problems. I think it has been that way for a few millennia.
And not only on a national level, but on a personal one as well. That hit home this afternoon. My next door neighbor's 36 year-old daughter and her boyfriend were killed in a car crash last night. Where she is now, I do not know - we were not close. But still I feel badly that I never broached the subject of her salvation the two or three times we might have conversed the 20 or so years since they moved here. That would be my heartache. The world is full of consequences. Still, I cannot leave it at that.
Could the decline in morals have something to do with it? I certainly cannot say, but the fact that both of them were into drug use and left a party and crashed doing 100 mph might have had something to do with it. You may form your own opinion. Either way, it's a sad circumstance. Please pray for her mother, sister, son, others who may be in the same spot, and everyone who does not believe. I will.
Finally, I do not expect to convince anonymous that God is real or to derail his/her attempt to discredit the Bible. God can do that - perhaps He will. But I took the time to respond because maybe one other non-believer might read this and be saved. To me, that is worth the effort.

Well I appreciate your deep understanding for your religion, you're one of the few beleivers who seemed to be actually educated in Christianity. There so many I know who shoot their mouth off without even really knowing what the Bible says. With that said, I am not trying to disprove that there is no God for no one can prove that there isn't. My main concern is the religion itself. As stated in my previous comments, there are several indicators to Christianity that it could be man-made.
You're a Christian so naturally you praise Jesus Christ, but I can guarantee if you were born in Afghanistan you would praise Allah, in some oriental countries you would praise Buddha, in India you would praise multiple gods. So does this mean they're all wrong? People of religion all claim the same thing: they feel the awesomeness of their god everyday hence why they believe. Now to say every other religion is wrong reeks of arrogance. Don't bother disproving other religions, for they can do the same for Christianity. Each one believes they are somewhat superior to the others.
As for being a slave to intellectualism, I am merely gaining wider perspectives with the mind I was given.

Thank you for your kind response and your understanding. I will respect what you have said and our right to disagree with each other on some things. I hold no animosity and get a read from you that you mean no harm either. Good luck, and in all things, keep your mind open.
